On this page (and subpages) you will find information about parking spaces along the motorways in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany used by exceptional transports.

Exceptional transports are sometimes required to park somewhere for various reasons. Usually this has to do with the rules within heavy transport.

This may have to do with the length / width of the load, or the weight, or the regulations of the country concerned, because the rules are not the same in every country.

Parking is also sometimes necessary due to the change of transport supervisors. Sometimes you have to wait for that.

If you want to see a lot of heavy transport combinations, Germany is the country of choice. Many raststätte (care areas) and Tankstelle (pumping stations) along German highways are equipped with schwerlastparkplätze, these are usually equipped with a so-called "schwerlastspur".

A Schwerlastspur is a very long parking lane where several long transports can park one behind the other.

Also in the Netherlands we have several parking spaces that are used by heavy transport, such as the border crossing at Venlo (A67, Venlose Heide) and the parking spaces Zandvliet (A4, Bergen op Zoom) and the Wouwse Tol (A58, Bergen op Zoom) and Het Rak (A58, Zeeland) but of course there are more.
